New and Emerging Church Life Committee
The New and Emerging Church Life Committee oversees the establishment, and guides the development of, new congregations; encourages, equips and provides resources for transforming congregations, and educates congregations on the importance of evangelism which is now called Prophetic Advocacy.
Process for Starting a New Church in the NC Region:
The New Church Pastor goes through time of discernment to determine if God is indeed calling them to plant a new church. The New Church Pastor contacts the chair of New and Emerging Church Life and lets them know that they are working on planting a new church. At this point the New Church Pastor submits a detailed vision statement and ministry plan for planting the new church.
The Chair of the committee will refer the documents to the Regional Minister, and a meeting will be set up for the Regional Minister and Chair to discuss any questions that they have about the new church. An additional meeting may be scheduled to have the New Church Pastor meet with the Regional Minister and Chair for further discussion or questions.
The Chair of the committee submits a report and the New Church application to the Regional Board and requests that the New Church be added to the agenda for a vote on approval of the New Church to become a member of the Region. At the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Regional Board, the Chair will present the New Church and answer any questions, and then a vote is taken to accept the New Church.
After the Regional Board votes to approve the New Church, the Chair submits a report to the Regional Assembly and presents the church to the next regularly scheduled Regional Assembly and asks the assembly to vote to affirm the new church plant as a new congregation of the Region. Following the vote of affirmation the new church plant then becomes officially a new church of the region and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and will be considered a new church for five years.
Transformational Ministry
For those churches that are ready to engage in transformational ministry (What we now call resiliency ministry) we now offer our Above and Beyond Resiliency Workshop Series.
